The endocannabinoid system

Until recent years not much study if any at all has been conducted into the ECS, short for the endocannabinoid system and its role within the body.

As more information becomes available we are starting to realize just how important this system is to healthy bodily function. We are all familiar with the many other systems that exist within the body and just how important they are to our well being, such as the role of the Circulatory System or the Pulmonary System, the skeletal system or the muscular and nervous systems, but what about the ECS?. It turns out that the ECS controls and regulates them all.

This system is involved in so many vital stress coping and or hormone and mood regulating processes, that often simple regulation of this system can improve ones health dramatically  and even alleviate severe debilitating symptoms from chronic illnesses such as Parkinson’s disease as we shall see in this amazing video I found, where in a TED talk Rachel Knox discusses the role of the ECS in the body and introduces a lady by the name of Jill, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, just watch as simple regulation of her ECS causes amazing effect on her ability to function without shaking, definitely worth a watch.

The ECS was discovered in the late 1980’s and is a biological system found in all mammals, consisting of endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors throughout the tissue, why are we are just beginning to discover its importance to homeostasis?
